Background information

The Vasa, named after the Swedish royal dynasty, was commissioned in 1625 under King Gustav II Adolf as the flagship of the Baltic Sea fleet. With a length of 69 meters and equipped with 72 cannons, she was one of the most impressive warships of her time. Over 700 gilded sculptures adorned the magnificent ship. Tragically, the Vasa dropped in Stockholm’s harbor on August 10, 1628 on August 10, 1628. After 333 years she was recovered and can be admired in the VASA Museum Stockholm today.
