Between 1980 and 1981, the Schweizerische Wagons- und Aufzügefabrik Schlieren (SWS) manufactured thirty UIC-Z1 type high-capacity wagons for the SBB. The car was strongly based on the Eurofima car, but differed significantly from them in a few points – the second-class cars had row seating in the arrangement 2+2, as well as the large, wide windows, as was previously the case with the 1st class.
